The CAMELS Multifield Data Set: Learning the Universe’s Fundamental Parameters with Artificial Intelligence

We present the Cosmology and Astrophysics with MachinE Learning Simulations (CAMELS) Multifield Dataset, CMD, a collection of hundreds thousands 2D maps 3D grids containing many different properties cosmic gas, dark matter, stars from 2,000 distinct simulated universes at several times. The represent regions that span $\sim$100 million light years have been generated state-of-the-art hydrodynamic gravity-only N-body simulations CAMELS project. Designed to train machine learning models, CMD is largest dataset its kind more than 70 Terabytes data. In this paper we describe in detail outline few applications. focus our attention on one such task, parameter inference, formulating problems face as challenge community. release all data provide further technical details https://camels-multifield-dataset.readthedocs.io.
